Digital Connectivity
Digital connectivity in rural Scotland has improved in recent years, but there remains a disparity in the availability of mobile coverage, fixed broadband (including ultra-fast and full-fibre broadband) and internet speeds between urban and rural Scotland and in particular on Scotland’s islands.
Through the NISRIE project, analysis will be undertaken to determine levels of connectivity across rural Scotland and its islands and associated impacts for rural and island residents. The impact of digital connectivity upon rural businesses across industrial sectors and geographies in Scotland will also be explored, along with the barriers to uptake and what improvements may be required to maximise business potential.
